Central holds coal deposits of approximately 176 million tons, situated in western Arkansas, eastern Oklahoma, northeastern Oklahoma and southeastern Kansas.  Currently, deposits of approximately 84 million tons of metallurgical quality coal are under long-term lease, while the remaining deposits are not presently leased.  Neither the leased nor the unleased deposits have produced coal in commercial quantities in the past five years despite attempts to successfully mine the deposits under lease.

Coalbed Methane (CBM)

Over the past several years, EnerVest (formally CDX Gas LLC), a specialist in coalbed methane exploration and production, has developed Central’s coal properties in Sebastian County, AR and LeFlore County, OK for the production of coalbed methane gas.  Since 2002, EnerVest has drilled and completed numerous producing wells on Central’s coal property, resulting in increased coalbed methane gas production on a year-over-year basis.  The development of these properties is a multi-year commitment.
